As she steps down from her role as chief designer of DKNY, we look back at some of Donna Karan’s more memorable fashion looks from the runway.

The news that Donna Karan was exiting her role as chief designer of the eponymous brand she founded in 1984 certainly sent shock waves throughout the fashion world on Tuesday night. After heading the fashion house for 31 years, Seventh Avenue’s greatest advocate for stylish work wear announced her departure to focus solely on her Urban Zen Company and Foundation, which advocates philanthropy, health care and cultural awareness.

As of yet, the designer has no successor, and indeed, it will be hard to find someone with the experience and credentials to match that of the Parsons-trained Anne Klein alum. While Donna will be acting as advisor to her label, all runway shows and collections have been suspended for the time being, with the Fall 2015 and Resort 2016 collection being the company’s last showcases under Karan’s direction.

From her first “seven easy pieces” collection in 1985 to the show-stopping gowns she’s dressed  many Hollywood stars in for the red carpet, Donna Karan’s sartorial direction and capabilities will be sorely missed by fashion fanatics the world over. To commemorate her career as a designer, we take a look at the 10 most iconic looks she’s created throughout the 3 decades of her career at DKNY.
