Close the Loop: H&M teams up with M.I.A. for recycling initiative

At least one multinational clothing company is taking environmental concerns seriously.

H&M x M.I.A.

Fashion retailer H&M, who recently unveiled their 2016 Coachella collection, has decided to join forces with recording artist M.I.A. to collect 1000 tonnes of garments as part of this year’s World Recycling Week. H&M’s Garment Collecting program has been around since 2013, with the aim of turning your unwanted clothing into new textile fibres to make new apparel. To raise awareness, M.I.A. has filmed an exclusive music video for H&M in the hopes of highlighting the environmental impact of clothes ending up at landfills all over the world.

M.I.A.’s new video will debut on the H&M website on 11 April, a date which also marks the start of the campaign. Like so many other style conscious musicians, the artist has also dabbled in fashion design and modelling, and may well offer us some wardrobe inspiration.

Want to contribute to the H&M Garment Collecting program? Gather all your unwanted clothes (of any brand, in any condition) and bring them to your nearest H&M store. H&M will collect your secondhand scraps and, in return, dish out vouchers. This way, everybody wins.
