Our in-house hijabster, Syaz, styles the latest Uniqlo collab and gives you tips on how to work the contemporary designs for this festive season.

We’re about to wrap up the last week of Ramadhan with Hari Raya just around the corner. For all our Muslim readers, we hope your preparations have been smooth-sailing! And in conjunction with the festivities, we were thrilled to take Uniqlo’s latest collaboration out for a spin.

Collaborating with UK-based designer Hana Tajima, Uniqlo launched its first modest wear collection as part of their LifeWear concept earlier this July. The collection boasts an array of conservative, summer-friendly pieces that are aimed at providing contemporary style without compromising comfort. Further enhancing the comfort level of wearers in tropical climates, completing the range is Uniqlo’s patented AIRism inner garments – which are sure to be favourites in our equatorial region.

Perfect for a casual day out but also great for dressy occasions, we love how versatile the collection is. Every garment has a way of serving both lovers of modest wear (any hijabis here?) and the fashion-savvy. As a headscarf-wearer myself, I was ecstatic to hear about the collection when news of the collaboration came months prior to the launch. Seeing modest wear integrating itself into mainstream fashion feels like a breakthrough. This only leaves more room for further developments in conservative high-street fashion in the industry!

The collection is available for purchase at 313@Somerset, Bugis+, OneKM and the Online Store. Look through the gallery above for notes on how I styled some of the pieces, and give you tips on how you can dress them up this Aidilfitri.
