Fashion week madness has started in NYC. So what’s different about it this year?

Yesterday was D-Day for Fashion Week in New York. The American fashion event of the year kicked off on Thursday at Lincoln Center, presenting the Spring-Summer 2014 collections.

More than a hundred shows are announced this week including regulars such as Diane Von Furtensberg, BCBG Max Azria, Michael Kors and Lacoste among others … Not to mention that two new small European brands are debuting in NYC; the Spanish label Desigual will present its first collection in anticipation of the opening of its store on 5th Avenue and the UK’s favourite highstreet label, All Saints.

However, the shows are somewhat disrupted this year by the debate about the location of the Fashion Week. A lawsuit was filed last year against the installation of tents for disturbing public order and non-environmental effects. As a result, the venue might be moved next time, according to information from Diane Von Furtensberg, President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). This year however, the events are scattered at Milk Studios, some galleries in Chelsea or on the roofs of hotels like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren‘s shows for example.

In short, 350 parades will follow one another in the city.

After New York, there is London, Milan and Paris; Four weeks of intense happiness for fashionistas. But the better news is that even if you’re not there, all the shows at Lincoln centre will broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.

Not to mention that our team at Marie France Asia will be bringing you a weekly trend report for each event so watch this space!
