From Diane Kruger to Elizabeth Banks and Radha Mitchell, the red carpet was no doubt filled with a stream of elegant black and white hues.

As what is considered one of the oldest film festivals in the world, Venice International Film Festival is no doubt the grand dame of cinematic award shows – right alongside Cannes. Which is why year in and year out, the style stakes on the red carpet continue to soar, as much as the talent presented on screens do. And this time for the 72nd edition, let’s just say the celebrities were definitely prepared.

However, instead of the usual elaborate and brightly-coloured variations of yester years, the first day of the film festival was exceptionally elegant as a stream of black and white gowns floated on the red carpet for the premiere of Everest. From Diane Kruger’s ethereal Prada gown to Paz Vega’s gorgeous beaded Ralph & Russo dress, we couldn’t help but stare agape as the images rolled in.

Alongside them were Viann Zhang, Alessandra Ambrosio, Clotilde Courau and Radha Mitchell who continued the monochrome parade with sheergrace. We don’t know what the next few days will hold but let’s just savour these sartorial stars for now.
