Need more outfit inspirations for Chinese New Year? Perhaps Shanghai Tang’s latest collection will get you sorted.

If you’re looking for fashion options that marry orientalism with modern cuts, then Hong Kong-based brand, Shanghai Tang could just be your sartorial answer.

The Spring/ Summer 2015 collection features brilliant shades of turquoise blue, deep red, vermillion, magnolia yellow, alongside earthy neutrals in sophisticated cuts and silhouettes. By taking a leaf out of a traveller’s wardrobe, the silky blouses and knee-length wrap dresses make for the ideal, effortless outfit on a summer vacation – perhaps even to the island of Capri.

One standout print in the collection were the fluttering butterflies, set against a blue and dark purple background featuring a kaleidoscopic range of colours and shapes. Seen on tailored dresses, pencil skirts and a sweater with knitted sleeves, the playful print serves to inject a touch of whimsy to the rather elegant pieces.

Not forgetting their Chinese roots, oriental accents were retained such as the mandarin collar; buttons usually found in typical cheongsams were replicated onto blouses as well as the traditional knot buttons.

So if you’re looking for the perfect Chinese New Year outfit – one that melds tradition with the modern times – then we’d suggest picking out the butterfly-printed cheongsam or the cap sleeve dress with buttons. Either way, your style will be right on point for the festivities.
