20 Statement skirts you can wear more than once

If your impulse splurge on a statement skirt resulted in yet another fashionable piece you’ll only keep in your wardrobe, here’s how you can style it up to wear throughout the week.

Skirts may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the right one can set one’s heart aflutter and result in an impulse purchase. There’s just something about a statement piece with embellishments, a unique silhouette or bright colour that draws us to drop the splurge.

If you’ve found yourself falling into that trap and eventually letting that covetable skirt sit pretty in your wardrobe, we’re here to give you some tips on how to get more wear out of it (and to justify the hefty price tag). Read on for our guide below, plus a roundup of 20 statement skirts you can consider in the gallery above.

DRESS IT UP (AND DOWN)

A statement skirt’s first debut from your wardrobe will probably be a more dressed-up look, so go simple on top with a white shirt and blazer or cardigan. This can take you from a fancy night out at the theatre to a chic wedding, or even the office.

LAYER

Layering for a skirt-on-skirt look is possible if your statement piece is anything but a maxi. An A-line mini skirt can be layered over a tubular skirt to act as a peplum, and a longer statement pencil skirt can be worn over a slim maxi skirt in a neutral colour like black or white for a multi-dimensional look.

WEAR IT AS A DRESS

There are no rules in fashion! Skirts can double up as dresses as long as the waistline fits perfectly above your bust. However, we only recommend this for skirts with flared shapes as they’re more forgiving on the body. Consider throwing on a complementary outerwear piece too if you’re self-conscious about someone recognising that your ‘dress’ is actually a skirt.
