Time Taken to Make A Dress

Before you head out on the dress hunt, here are some preparation tips to make sure you get the best and most flattering gown for your big day.

A myriad of thoughts will go through a bride-to-be’s mind the moment her finger feels the weight of an engagement ring. Amidst the flurry though, irrefutably, one of the biggest – if not, the biggest – decisions to make is the wedding dress. And if you do not approach it with caution, bride-zilla tendencies may arise. So to prevent that, here are some tips on how to go through the process with as much calm as possible.

NARROW DOWN YOUR FAVOURITES

Begin by doing some research and narrowing down which style you’d like to see yourself in. A good start would be to recognise which neckline and silhouette that flatters you most. Try to recall a dressy event that you went to and felt confident in what you were wearing. If it was dress, you can use that particular cut and style as basic reference, or even as a foundation.

If this technique doesn’t resonate well with you, flip through some magazines or comb through the thousands of wedding boards on Pinterest. Plenty of inspiration is waiting to be drawn from designers, bridal shoots and picturesque weddings, so there’s bound to be something that’ll catch your eye. Make sure to archive the gowns you like so you can bring those photos down to the boutique for better explanation of your preferences.

DON’T GO SHOPPING ALONE

As much as we’d like to think that it’s best to trust our instincts when making decisions, it’s not always a good idea when it comes to something as major as a wedding gown. Shopping alone could be a dangerous move, as you’d be internally conflicted if you can’t make up your mind between dresses, or feel pressured if the boutique’s sales staff egg you on to make your choice quickly. These could very likely lead to impulsive decisions you might regret later on.

Ask yourself who are the people closest to you whose opinions you value. Your fiance doesn’t count – he can’t so much as even peek at the dress! Choose someone who you’d be comfortable shopping with – whether a sibling, a best friend, or even your mother (‘mama knows best‘, they say!). Just remember that’ll it’ll be ideal to keep your shopping buddy to just one or two, if they are like-minded. Bringing too many people along may result in clashing opinions that are less than favourable and may even give you a bigger headache.

Once you’re done with the initial planning, it’s about time you get going for a round or two of appointments and dress-hunting at Singapore’s best bridal boutiques. Lucky for you, we’ve already listed them in our gallery above.
