Soft, structured, oversized or embroidered…here’s our roundup of the hottest coat trends to be tucked into this season.

Even if you live n the tropics, some of this Winter’s trends are hard to ignore.

And when it comes to the supposedly cold season, it’s all about the outerwear. So whether you’re still to pick that statement coat to see you through a cold winter or planning to travel somewhere cold to enjoy the holidays – we have picked the star trends for this season which we are yearning to borrow from the runways…

Plaid.  This pattern continues to be heavily emulated by fashion followers. We have a printed tote-inspired by Celine, moving on to royal ideals by Moschino and finally the coat is subtly shimmery at Louis Vuitton. The plaid trend is far from being “square”.

In reality: It can be challenging to mix several types of plaid and this is no doubt dangerous ground (or adventurous if you will). Nonetheless, you could let the coat be in the spotlight by opting to wear a classic look underneath.

White fleece.  Yes, designers did not consider whether white would be a template for messy disasters in reality. Nevertheless, as much as the gray skies will not hurt us, white will not too. While Simone Rochas presents an innocent white, it stands out for its volume at Gianfranco Ferré  and a hint of complexity at Barbara Bui.

In reality: Even if you’re a fan of the total white look, avoid too pale shades (beige, gray) for the rest of your outfit and do not hesitate to play contrasts or to colour block. Strong colors are definitely welcomed. However, if you do not have the habit of wearing colours, appreciate them as a form of accessory.

Pastel.  In this case, overcoats take on the appearance of watercolors where Carven revives childhood thoughts with the baby blue and candy pink hues while almond green predominates Giambattista Valli.

In reality: The pastel coat is really THE new trend for this winter, which everyone is absolutely crazy about. It is the unexpected brilliance of closets (often shrouded in darkness) that leaves you wanting to dress up in the morning. Keep the focus on light outfits since black is often associated with ‘cocktail parties’.

Bright colours. You may tend to reserve colours for the summer especially to attain the “colour block” style but Paul Smith shows us that colours dominate even at low temperatures. We realize that the Little Red Riding Hood is not dead at Elena Miro and the purple shade is back with Stella McCartney.

In reality: A must have. If you have the habit of constantly wearing black, any bright colors will make your whole look less sad. Another point of caution would be to play with different shades beforehand so as to avoid a combination of gaudy hues.

The camel.  Reflecting the fall season, this colour does not abandon us when it comes to the cold weather. Maximum coverage of camel tones was seen at Max Mara, which triggers our desire to almost want to live in Alaska. Margaret Howell presents an interesting 60s menswear tribute while a soft shine sparkles at Dries Van Noten.

In reality: The camel coat adapts easily with most winter colours so there is no need to worry about the lack of options!

Textured black. The basic and practical creators of fashion are far from having exhausted black as subject. This time, black intensifies and fashions a new take on materials. While there is an air of Matrix at Gucci, it also comes with a fluffy version at Christophe Lemaire and even padded for Sportmax.

In reality: There is no criticism for black except that it has become our safe haven. A short, black coat is timeless and we will never get tired of it!

So, which coat has tugged on your heartstrings?
