Elegant Neons
updated the 7 October 2015 à 00:07Stand out from the crowd by wearing these shocking hues – with sophistication.
Neon colours are normally associated with the 80s pop culture and has been so far reserved for the teens and tweens.
But this season sees these traffic-stopping hues invading our wardrobes in the most sophisticated form after undergoing a transformation to the grown-up side.
The marrying of shocking colours with feminine lace, embroidery and elegant silhouettes has produced one of the trends we just can’t get enough of!
Here are a few tips of how to pull off this daring trend in the best way possible.
Clothes:
– The look: Unless you are going to a 80s theme night, avoid overloading on neon shades. Team a maximum of two clashing shades for a daring look, or one shade with nudes and monochromes to achieve a more subtle one.
– The Shape: The right shape is key to looking fresh and elegant in neons rather than ‘vintage’. Try structured blazers, oversized jumpers and silk blouses with pencil skirts or cropped trousers for a chic look with a twist.
– Details: Whether it is lace, embroidery, beading or prints, take cue from Erdem and Simon Rocha’s latest collections to master wearing neons with sophistication. If you’re going for a dress, a basic lady-like cut with intricate details in the right amount is an ultimate style statement.
Accessories:
– Shoes: Neon shoes are a great way to inject an element of fun into a monochrome wardrobe. Go for sandals, pointed or peep toe stiletto pumps and court heels for an elegant touch.
– Jewellery: The bigger the better! Try custom jewellery and chunky necklaces with an injection of neon shades to add a fresh take on your summer outfits. Wear them with anything from an LBD to a pair of jeans and t-shirt to lift up your ‘on-the-go’ look.
