A dessert affair that would put others to shame – renowned french-inspired Japanese patisserie opens its doors in Dempsey Hill.

If you needed yet another excuse to spend some free time, or your cheat day, at one of Singapore’s favourite food enclaves, Dempsey Hill, here’s one that might just be a better reason than all the rest.

The reason being, of course, that the world-renowned French-inspired Japanese patisserie, Henri Charpentier is opening the doors to its spacious 4400sqf dessert salon come October 2014 at the fine food destination. Staying true to the philosophy of the man whom the salon is named after – who is none other than the 19th Century French chef himself, Henri Charpentier ensures that they ‘create sweets that bring joy with touch of surprise’. The founder of the popular patisserie, Naokuni Arita, has managed to make his humble enterprise that started with a small cafe in Ashyiga City in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan, an internationally recognised household name in the 45 years it has been around.

Lauded for its indulgent and creative dessert and pastry creations and Chef Henri Charpentier’s famous buttermilk-based Crêpe Suzette, Henri Charpentier is also famous for their Les Financiers and Les Madeleines that are made with cultured butter derived from raw milk which is developed exclusively and through a painstaking process, in the Konsen area of Hokkaido. To top that fact off, the Les Financiers and Les Madeleines are made in Japan and flown to Singapore, fresh out of the oven. Talk about effort! It is no wonder they are considered the best French patisserie in all of Japan.

Singapore’s Henri Charpentier is a unique, dual concept patisserie. The entrance is a merchandising section, beside an accolades section and the other zone is separated into an indoor dining area and an outdoor alfresco area, surrounded by the lush greenery and welcome seclusion that Dempsey Hill is famous for. The restaurant seats 80 pax in total.

In a bid to spread the love of their unique artisanal desserts and pastries, Henri Charpentier‘s Singapore branch will feature an ‘Exclusive Singapore Menu’ that includes delectable delights such as a Singapore Botanic Gardens-inspired dessert, Flower Temptation (SGD $25), which is made up of ‘sautéed crunchy pineapple bits circled around a parfait of caramel-flavoured chocolate mousse and dark chocolate mousse, topped with a bowl of sweet and sour orange sauce flambéed during the dessert performance, representing vibrant flowers in bloom’. Other carefully thought out desserts include Tarte Tatin (SGD $18), Meringue accompanied by Homemade Sangria (SGD $19), Coupe de Peche (SGD $21), Rouge (SGD $19) – representing Singapore’s nightlife and even a flaming chocolate Dome (SGD $29).

If that menu wasn’t satisfying enough for even the sweetest of sweet tooth, there is a smorgasbord of other dessert options to choose from – after all it is a dessert salon. In addition to that, you can balance your palette out with some warm, savoury dishes, which include French favourites such as Foie Gras Terrine with Beerawecka (SGD $22.50), Ratatouille and Parmesan Cheese Tartine (S$17), Beef Bourguignon (Stew) with Mashed Potatoes (SGD $27), to name a few.

For a truly wholesome dessert and dining affair, head on down to this dual-concept patisserie.

Open from 11am to 10pm daily, Henri Charpentier officially opens on the 9th of October 2014 and is located at 9A Dempsey Road, Singapore 247698.
