This is where champion baristas brew each cup with passion. Here’s why we love Jakarta’s 1/15 Coffee.

The Nordic style coffee shop endorses a clean interior design, housing wooden furnitures specially designed and made for them. Craftmanship is indeed the creedo of 1/15 Coffee – the name derived from coffee-to-water ratio for a standard brew.

The house blend comes from Morph Coffee, a local boutique roasterie. The espresso goes to the sweet side, and has a kick that will balance the milk in your latte. Go for piccolo latte to find the stronger taste of the epsresso. Single origins mostly come from all parts of Indonesia, all lightly roasted to deliver many notes. Ocassionally, imported beans from Latin America and Africa are featured.

Doddy Samsura – the barista-cum-roaster – was a two-years-in-a-row national champion. Barista Anggara Rizki placed the third in ASEAN Barista Championship 2013. The blends they used to compete in international stages are also available in the café. All the baristas are very well-trained, passionate, and friendly.

Besides espresso-based beverages, 1/15 Coffee also manually brews their coffee with a wide range of methods; using Chemex, V60, Kallita Wave, Aeropress, Clever Coffee Dripper, and so on. For light coffee drinkers, try the refreshing and joyful cold brew called Rock Java Lime. Non-caffeinated selection covers homemade chai latte, lime press, fresh juices, and smoothies.

The foods are all freshly prepared, cooked, and baked inside the kitchen. Besides the salad and sandwhiches, try the Indonesian dishes that are rarely found in other establishments; Mie Celor (thick noodles in thick paste with shrimps and egg), Pempek (fish cakes), and Tekwan (soup of mini fish balls). All of them are authentic cuisine coming from Palembang, South Sumatera. And, don’t miss their sumptuous pineapple cake, and beer infused chocolate brownie.

Every Saturday morning, 1/15 Coffee holds cupping session where anybody can just come and join. It’s a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about coffee, and have casual chats with fellow coffee lovers, baristas and roasters. Occasionally, the place also hosts competitions like Latte Art Throwdown, and Aeropress Brewing Contest.

Typical crowds will be young creative minds seeking for inspiring quiet corners, and small groups of young executives for tattles over some churros. Yes, the wifi is fast, and sockets aplenty, so everybody can sit in the long communal tables, lounge-style sofas, or loner’s bar. Smoking section is well-separated in the back. The second floor can be used for various kinds of events.

If your visit to Jakarta is too brief, this is one coffee place you don’t want to miss. You may plan to spend half-an-hour here, but chances are you’ll end up staying for much longer.

1/15 Coffee is located in Jalan Gandari I no. 63 (right across an Alfamart), South Jakarta, Indonesia. (Tel: +62-21-7225678)
