There are just some things that you can’t go a whole lifetime without trying and for us that’s the slew of delectable dishes found in Singapore.

Singaporeans love to eat. We love to eat so much that “Have you eaten?” is a common greeting in place of “How are you?”

Ask any Singaporean who has moved abroad and they’ll likely tell you they miss the food here the most. From fried carrot cake to nasi lemak, the food here cannot be found anywhere else around the world. Well, unless a displaced Singaporean has opened something up there.

Although we have a little sibling rivalry with Malaysia regarding the origin of the dishes, all we say say is they’re both equally mouthwatering. As long as we can get hold of our carrot cake and char kway teow, we can forget about quibbling.

So if you’re new to town, here are 10 iconic dishes in Singapore that you have to try at least once. Or forever hold your silence that you’ve missed out on some delectable local grub.
