The bar sits on the first floor, providing plenty of drink choices to even the pickiest connoisseur. For the hungry, good food is also an option here, with inventive creations that feature piquant (yet well-balanced) flavours, sure to satisfy any discerning palate.

Havana Social
Self-proclaimed as a “secret pre-revolutionary 1940s Cuban cocktail bar”, you should prepare yourself for the level of detail and effort that clearly went into making the theme come to life at Havana Social, right in the middle of Bangkok. With dim lighting, crumbling walls, and old fashioned furniture all giving the place a truly clandestine vibe, you’ll think you’ve been transported to another era entirely. We invite you to turn back your clock and knock back a slew of retro cocktails at his vintage bar. To get in, just look out of the ‘Telefono’ sign in a small alley opposite Fraser Suites and locate the old-school phone booth, which acts as the hidden door (creative, we know).

An establishment that is pretty well hidden (tucked away in a small dead-end alley), J. Boroski is the complete opposite of a flashy bar. Cosy and quiet, with tasteful music playing in the background, there is a welcoming sense of intimacy here. This is one of those cocktail bars with no menu or price list, you just have to trust in your bartender to handcraft you something you might like - just let them know your flavour preferences.

Everything from the music to the intriguing theme to the drinks to the bartenders are on point at Maggie Choo’s. Moulded after a 1930s Shanghai speakeasy, it might not be all that surprising to find that the bar is fronted by a traditional noodle shop. Descend to the basement and you’ll find yourself transported to a vintage casino-style den that goes over the top with its Qipao-wearing Shanghai ladies, plush leather couches, lamp lights, and oh, did we mention the fantastic jazzy ambience? Strong cocktails and a fantastic night awaits.

Just because they’re hard to find doesn’t mean that they compromise on quality or atmosphere.

With speakeasies ramping up in popularity all across Southeast Asia, it isn’t surprising to find that Bangkok is home to a few unique ones. Whether they’re laid-back and intimate spots, or resemble more of a loud den of revelry, you can have your pick in this vibrant city. Themed bars are all the rage. You might, for example, find the likes of a glorious 1930s Shanghai establishment fronted by a noodle shop that features Qipao-clad ladies (Maggie Choo’s is the place to be), or a pre-revolutionary 1940s Cuban cocktail bar decked out in impressive old-fashioned ornamentation that fit the part (Havana Social, we’re looking at you).
