It’s definitely getting hot in here with these tongue-numbing dishes.

It is no secret that us Asians love our spices. Just five minutes in a hawker centre queue and you’ll hear a steady stream of “more chili, please” from hungry patrons to the hawkers preparing the dishes. While this might confound people (given the sweltering heat we live in), it appears that the country’s obsession with spice has morphed into somewhat of a national identity and is here to stay.

We’ve scoured the island for the 7 spiciest dishes that will no doubt test and blaze your palates. While you might typically associate spicy dishes to Indian or Thai food, you’d be surprised to find that we’ve included dishes from various cuisines – even Japanese! From the aptly named ‘Spaghetti from Hell’ at Southwest Tavern to the Level 6 Threadfin Fish Curry at Lagnaa, these are the dishes to try the next time you’re itching for a little heat in your food, or simply want the bragging rights of having successfully braved the spice.
