What exactly are vitamins, and why do we need them?

Okay, we get it. Vitamins are good for us. They provide us with health benefits that are essential for the wellbeing of our bodies, and we need to consume a certain amount of vitamins each day for maximum gains. There is a whole list of Vitamins from A to K, each providing for different functions and found in different sources of food. But, chances are, that’s about all that you know regarding our little vitamin friends, is that right?

It’s important to learn about what you’re ingesting instead of blindly following what others think is good for you, just so that you understand your body a little better. Basically, vitamins are essential nutrients that pose benefits to humans in limited quantities (yes, you can overdose on vitamins) and cannot be produced naturally by the body without help, which is why we can only attain these through a healthy diet or exposure to sunlight. It is obviously best if your daily vitamin intake is obtained through natural food sources, but, nowadays, vitamin supplements are also readily available should you be lacking in any of these nutrients.
