Everything to know about organic tampons.

You have seen the transition of food to organic foods and clothes to organic clothes. But you might not have heard of organic tampons. Organic tampons are not as widely sold in supermarkets as compared to conventional tampons – simply because people don’t feel the need for it!

What a lot of people don’t realise is, not only is our body sensitive to the foods we consume, but also to the toxic materials it gets exposed to. Here, we will sum up the difference between conventional and organic tampons and why you should start making the switch.

Conventional tampons are made with regular cotton (grown with pesticides) and rayon that has been bleached and whitened with chlorine, with some even containing artificial fragrances and dyes. As for the applicator, it’s often made of plastic. Not only are conventional tampons toxic, they are also not environmentally friendly.

Organic tampons are made of organic cotton and are free from any chemicals, fragrances or dyes. Some come with applicators while others don’t. The applicators are made of biodegradable cardboard or sustainable plant-based materials most of the time. They are pricier compared to conventional tampons but if you think about it, you’re helping to save the environment!

You should be wary of the quality of the tampons you use. After all, the toxic ingredients it may contain might get absorbed through your vaginal walls and can bypass your liver. This might lead to unforeseable illnesses in the future, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
