130 years in 30 seconds: NASA releases shocking Global Warming video

updated the 14 July 2015 à 18:32

NASA just uploaded a 30-second video documenting how global warming has been increasing at an alarming rate for the past 130 years. The images will send a chill down your spine.

According to NASA, 2014 is the record warmest year since 1880. In this occasion, the American space organization recently broadcasted an arresting video documenting the effects of global warming over the past 130 years.

Our planet is burning up

To understand this video, it’s helpful to know the zones coloured in red have warmed around 2°C, while yellow and orange indicate a less significant rise in temperature. Then there are some parts coloured blue. Paradoxically, these areas are spared from global warming but instead experience a drop in temperature.

Scientists initially started with an estimation that the world temperature will fluctuate. In reality, our home planet has warmed to an average of 0,8°C. According to a study by NASA and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), much of the increase occured in the past 15 years. Of course, it’s all due to our excessive emission of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases.

If we don’t start aiming for a healthier planet, we will continue seeing wildfires, heat waves, storms and droughts. Take this video as your wakeup call!
