Forget genes! Your birth month can predict your future illnesses

October babies beware! According to a recent U.S. study, you are at the highest risk of contracting diseases. But who’s the lucky month?

Think that birthdates are only linked to astrology and horoscopes? Think again! After examining hundreds of thousands of medical databases in New York, scientists at Columbia University have managed to show a positive correlation between your birth month, the chances of you falling sick, and the type of illnesses you are more likely to contract. Specifically, there are 55 diseases that bear direct links to the time of your birth.

That’s great news for May babies, who have the lowest disease incidence, but it’s pretty bad for the October-borns who are at the highest risk for falling sick. According to researchers, this is due to seasonal differences, which can influence the development of early defence mechanisms and affect the immune system.

On another note, January babies are more prone to hypertension, those born in July and October likelier to contract asthma, and if your birth month is November you have increased risk for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)! Unfortunately, those having birth months from March to June also have lower life expectancies as they are more likely to be diagnosed with heart disease like atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure.

But it’s not all dreary and doom, because while indicating a higher risk, this doesn’t means that you’ll actually contract these diseases for sure. Just maintain an active lifestyle and keep a balanced diet, and you’ll be in good health for a long time to come
