Men and women do not have very different brain structures

Men may be from Mars and women from Venus but our different behaviours cannot be explained from our brain structure.

homme femme cerveau

According to widespread belief, if women and men do not react the same way to events and do not have the same sensitivity, that is because their brains are different. Some areas are more developed in women, which may explain, in part, our supposed emotionalism. To test this hypothesis, a team of researchers compiled dozens of scientific studies that have examined the peculiarities of male and female brains. Result: our cerebral organs are actually very close.

SIMILAR BRAIN

Dr. Lise Eliot, specializing in neurology, has scrutinized the results of MRI of over 6000 patients seeking an explanation from the behavioral differences between the sexes. Some smaller previous studies have found that women’s hippocampus, a key area of the brain for memory and emotions, was more developed, making us more sensitive. “On a large number of individuals, this size difference disappears or becomes negligible and insignificant,” says the researcher. According to her, there would not be a male or female brain type. However, differences can be observed between individuals, whatever their sex.
