Uruguayan scientists succeed in producing phosphorescent sheep.

SHEEP_glow in the darkIt works! These sheep aren’t infused with the jellyfish’s phosphorescent gene for gourmet, nutrition or artistic purposes. In fact, these fluorescent sheep are simply a proof that the Uruguayans have discovered biotechnological ways to infuse a gene of their choice into sheep.

The objective now, is for the scientists to successfully apply the same manipulation using a human gene – such as insulin – instead of the jellyfish’s phosphorescent gene.

These sheep will then produce milk containing insulin which could be extracted and packaged in medications for diabetics.
