What are the benefits of the poppy plant?

An ally of sensitive skin

Do not be fooled by this graceful wild flower, it is in fact full of medicinal benefits.

The poppy can always become a real ally for our health. In addition to its virtues to cure dry bronchitis, it soothes pain, regulates our emotions and takes care of our skin.

The syrup extract of its petals is rich in sugars and antioxidants and has the power to soothe dry bronchitis, sore throat and asthma. It is also traditionally recommended to alleviate whooping cough.

Homemade syrups

You can get the poppy syrup commercially but you can also prepare it yourself using dried petals. Pour a liter of boiling water over 70g of petals. Steep for 6 to 8 hours, then add 1.5kg of sugar and cook until you get a syrupy consistency. Set it aside in a bottle. For coughs, take 5-6 c. c. per day for adults (2-3 for children).

In the kitchen

A softer syrup (do not infuse the petals for more than three hours) can be used with pancakes that are flavoured with white cheese, compote or fruit salad.
