Eat fish… and jellyfish!

The UN recommends a challenge that is both culinary and ecological.

fish
Where no wacky nutritionist or Hollywood star had dared to venture, the UN has! Their latest Food and Agriculture report recommends eating jellyfish. While it has no detox or fat-burning properties, eating the gelatinous sea creature will save the fish and will thus ensure sustainable resources in animal protein and omega 3.

Fish such as sardines, salmon and bream have always been part of the diet of coastal populations; their nutritional characteristics have made them an essential health food and are recommended to be consumed at least 2-3 times per week instead of meat. This health food is threatened by over-fishing but also by the jellyfish. They are very numerous in the ocean that they deprive the fish some of their food and threaten the continuations of generations. In the report, the experts say ‘an ocean of jellyfish is poised to replace an ocean of fish’.

To address this issue, anything is possible. Melanie Laurent, Lizzy Jagger and many others have recently participated in ‘Fishlove’ where they were photographed nude with fish such as tuna, cod, swordfish etc (http://www.fishlove.co.uk/). But apart from this somehow unusual way to safeguard marine resources, we have also included one recipe for you try; jellyfish salad which is easy by any amateur cook standards.

Enjoy!
