When you are suffering from stress or anxiety, there is nothing better than a ‘shower’ for your mind to cleanse it from negative thoughts and purify your inner self. This is the advice of psychologist and philosopher Ariane Bilheran.

As you shower every day to wash your body, why wouldn’t you want learn to wash your soul or – as we say in the popular vocabulary ‘wash your brain’ – when it is flooded with concerns, worries and frustrations? In his new book ‘Se Sentir en Sécurité (Feeling safe), psychologist and philosopher Ariane Bilheran insists that there is nothing better than practicing the ‘psychic shower’ mental exercise to purge all negative thoughts and cleanse your soul.

How does it work? Psychic shower is a visualization exercise that lasts for a period of 5 to 10 minutes. ‘Like every exercise, it may seem difficult at first, but with practice it becomes equally beneficial to cleanse the body,’ says the specialist. He recommends to indulge in it at least once a day, including when you get home after a long day at work; or in the evening before sleeping as a ritual to separate between the waking world and the world of sleep. This exercise can also be done as often as necessary.

1. Stand up.

2. Visualize a golden or white light, like a ray of sunshine, coming down from the top of your head (above the top of your skull) to drain all parts of your body from toxins, negative thoughts, and everything dark within your head.

3. Watch the movement from top to bottom, from heaven to earth, where light carries with it the dark concerns and sends down the “psychic toxins” to the ground.

4. Then make the wish that the earth recycles all those negative thoughts and turns them into light and positive thoughts. You can accompany the thought with a wave of your right hand, which follows the purification from top to bottom.
