UOB reveals spending habits of Singaporean women & launches refreshed Lady’s Card

Here’s an interesting fact: Singaporean women seem to be spending a lot faster than men are.

United Overseas Bank (UOB) has recently released their findings on the archetypes of the modern Singapore woman, based on their how they spend their money. The behavioral study has lead to a startling discovery that women are now spending 17 per cent faster than men. That’s not to say women are necessarily spending more than men – just that they are whipping out their credit cards much more often. By 2020, though, UOB believes we’ll be catching up with the men and will contribute to half of the bank’s total credit card billings.

With this upward trend in credit card spend over the last few years, especially by women between the ages of 20 to 39, it is believed that women in Singapore are becoming increasingly enterprising as their average incomes increase.

The bank has identified three archetypes of today’s Singapore women:

  1. Rachel, the digital native, 18 to 25 years old, spends $400 a month where shopping, beauty and eating make up 55 per cent of her total monthly spend.
  2. Michelle, the young professional, 26 to 35 years old, spends $1,000 a month where shopping, beauty and dining make up 52 per cent of her total monthly spend.
  3. Christina, the cosmopolitan leader, above 36 years old, who spends $2,000 per month where shopping, medical services, beauty and fitness make up 64 per cent of her total monthly spend.
