Body language: What are our legs saying?

You catch yourself sitting with your legs crossed or twisting your feet around a chair often? Here are some clues on what your legs say about you…

Our leg can often reflect how we are feeling. But why?

Simply because we have less control over the bottom part of our body than the top!

Curious to learn more? Here are some clues to know what your legs are giving away…

I’m ALWAYS CROSSing MY LEGS when sitting…WHY?

This usually happens when you feel good, and you are calm . You may have someone interesting speaking to you, a good friend perhaps. When we are full of positive energy, we tend to cross the left leg over the right. Conversely, if you feel uncomfortable, stressed, annoyed or sad, we tend to cross the right leg over our left thigh.

CROSSING MY LEGS ONE OVER THE OTHER, I SLIP A HAND BETWEEN MY THIGHS.

This posture portrays a sense of insecurity and the immediate need for reassurance …

I often cross my hands over one of my knees.

This gesture gives off a stressed vibe, as if you are scared of something. If you are grabbing your legs, it usually means you are being defensive over something – maybe your colleague said something rude about you, or you are in a fight with a sibling.

Sometimes I sit with my weight supported by my toes and my heels off the ground … like a dancer on her toes!

Beware, a crush may interpret this stance as a sign of unavailability, it shows you may have some anxiety- it looks like you are ready to jump or run away – unlike if your feet were to be placed flat, which expresses a more relaxed, approachable attitude.

WHAT IF I TANGLE MY FEET AROUND A CHAIR?

This means you are looking for something to sooth stress or nerves.

I stand facing the bar, at a party where I know no one, I continue to cross and uncross my legs.

This attitude reveals a certain shyness – it means you do not know where to turn and that you are overwhelmed.

While i discuss something in a group, I stand with my feet drawn at a right angle, one of my heel moves towards the arch of the other.

Discreetly, this position may mean that you are crushing over the person in the direction your foot is pointing. If your heel is pointing to a door…it means you really want to leave.
