Testimony: “A 40 year-old woman is mature, confident; the opposite of who I am.”

You may be forty but you are far from feeling the way you should at that age.

“I always have the impression that I am not 40, except at work where I am 40 years old in front of teenagers and their parents. 40 years is a figure that does not speak to me. In my opinion, a 40 year-old woman is mature, confident, and comfortable, assumes her responsibilities and femininity, and takes care of her house. All of which are the opposite of who I am! I feel 15 years younger; I am an eternal rebel, impulsive, hypersensitive, passionate and idealistic. In a conversation, I can get carried away. I struggle to identify with people of my generation. They no longer have doubts about themselves, they play roles and have lost their ideals. They take themselves too seriously! At the same time, I take life very seriously. But sometimes I feel a little out of the loop when we speak about boring topics: house, car, securities investments. I cannot pretend to be interested! Maybe being 40 is to be able to pretend. Maybe it is being like my parents were; they faced up to their responsibilities. Sometimes, I am surprised to be married and a mother. I do not believe it. I do not deny being 40 years old, I just don’t feel it. But it is, of course, only an impression…”
