Who says seniors aren’t trendy and cool? Check this grandma who is taking instagram by storm.
Ageless beauties are becoming increasingly visible in the fashion industry. These days, more and more senior women are being chosen as brand ambassadors; namely, Joan Didion, 81, for Celine, Joni Mitchell, 71, for Saint-Laurent, and Iris Apfel, 93, for Kate Spade.
Riding the wave of this phenomenon, a funky grandma has emerged to become the hippest old woman on Twitter and Instagram. Using the moniker Baddie Winkle, the octogenarian from Kentucky (born in 1928) runs her own account posting original, colourful and hilarious pictures and videos of herself partying, twerking to Hip Hop tunes – and posing in swimwear, tie-dye t-shirts or even only with leaves. Her tagline is unsurprisingly provocative; “Stealing your man since 1928”.
It comes as no surprise that Baddie Winkle has instantly transformed into an Instagram celebrity. Recently, the 86-year-old became the new face of LA swimwear company, Dimepiece, fronting its “State of Mind” campaign. The photos shot by Nikko La Mere, in which Winkle is partying in a bikini and other swimsuits, prove once again, “that you’re never too old to be the baddest in the room”.
After all, being groovy and terrific is not just a matter of age!
