Forbes has unveiled its annual ranking of the most influential personalities in the world. Here are the top 10… including some surprises.

Eagerly awaited each year, the Forbes list provides a ranking of stars from the world of entertainment (television, film industry and music, sport and literature). It is based on the income earned by these celebrities and their influence on media worldwide. The study period runs from 1 June 2013 to 1 June 2014.

In addition to income, the the magazine’s team counts the number of media appearances of the star, his/her popularity on social networks as well as their relevance to their field of expertise. Thus, someone like Justin Bieber got most of his points due to his social media networks’ strength, giving him a good overall score – despite his limited musical impact this particular year. However, in one year, his ranking fell down from the ninth to the thirty-third place.

In addition, this year, there are 33 women among the 200 most influential celebrities that make up the rankings. Note also that some newcomers have made their appearance, among which is Matthew McConaughey (52), Amy Adams (81) Bruno Mars (13) and British boy band One Direction (28).
