Who said football and luxury do not mix? The famous French brand accepts FIFA’s invitation to create a luxurious case for the World Cup trophy this year.

That’s it, we’re almost one week into the World Cup fever and it’s only going to get more intense as the days go by.

At this point we cannot guess who will win the trophy yet – but we know for sure what the casing of the coveted cup will look like.

Yes, the French team might or might not win this year but French luxury label Louis Vuitton has won already – by being commissioned to create the case where the trophy itself is going to be kept.

Indeed and as in 2010, FIFA has given the famous trunk makers and fashion house the responsibility to create the bespoke case protecting the cup which 32 nations will compete fiercely until 13 July to get their hands on. And it is in the historic Asnières workshop that artisans are working hard to make the iconic case (shown above) for the 36 cm 18 carat gold trophy which weighs 6.175 kg.

Dressed in the iconic Monogram canvas, the cup’s travel case is fitted with the signature LV brass lock and corners. It opens in the front and on top, so you can easily remove the trophy when, on the evening of July 13, 2014, it will be presented to the captain of the FIFA World Cup winning team.

So, who do you think will be the lucky team to get this beautifully-crafted case and the trophy inside? We’ll have to wait and see.
