Mason Jars
How to: These little babies have become a signature in pretty much all hipster joints world-wide. However, they're not just for coolness, but for being economical too.

Rather than invest in cups, recycle your mason jars into drinking glasses. To step it up a notch, use them as soap and lotion dispensers by drilling a hole through its lid to fit an old dispenser nozzle through it.

Rope Plant Holders
How to: Take 8 pieces of rope around 1 metre long each, in a colour of your choice. Tie them together in a knot where you would like the plant to land. The remaining rope will hang down like tassles or you can cut it.

Place the plant pot upside down and divide the strands into groups of two, with the knot placed at the centre of the bottom of the pot. Braid the rope strands together in a style of your choosing until you get all the way around the plant pot. Once you have, tie a knot between all the pieces of rope at the very end of them. Place it on a hook of your choosing and hey presto - truly Instagram-worthy hanging flower pots.

Lightbulb Terrariums
How to: Starting with a lightbulb, remove the metal tip at the end of the bulb with thin pliers. Then peel back the rest of the ‘entrance’ to the lightbulb. If this is a tad too tricky for you, any glass jar or small fish-tank will do.

Using dry sand or small pebbles, lay the base for your terrarium. Follow this up with some preserved sheet moss and then some tillandsia on top. These are great because they have no roots and live on air alone so will not cause any mould, (or hassle). You can buy both of these at any garden or floral stores. Use a chopstick to shuffle the contents around to the desired result. To add a personal touch include a small toy animal or even a cute shell from the beach. Add some silicone bumpers to the base to keep it upright on your shelf, and voila! You have yourself a terrarium.

Wine Bottle Candle Holders
How to: As if wine could get any better? The bottles are just as handy as the contents, (okay maybe not just as much, but close).

Use your favourite empty wine bottles as candle stick holders and let wax melt over them for a cool effect. Insert a candle stick into the bottle's nozzle, (you’ll be surprised at what a perfect fit these two are). Light the candle and let the wax drip down the bottle. Use a different coloured candle each time to achieve a multi-coloured drip effect. If this isn’t your cup of tea, (or glass of wine), opt for your favourite empty bottles to be used as vases for flowers!
