Pinacotheque de Paris museum to open in Singapore

Our island nation will soon be home to more brilliant artworks hailing from the prestigious private art museum in Paris.

Pinacotheque

Singapore may be a tiny country with a relatively short history span as opposed to her neighbours but that hasn’t stopped Pinacotheque de Paris, the largest private art museum in Paris from planning its opening here.

As the first international offshoot outside of Europe, the Singapore Pinacothèque de Paris will be located within the lush grounds of Fort Canning Park at Fort Canning Centre. While there’s no confirmed opening date as of yet, what we do know is that Myth of Cleopatra will be the first exhibition. It will feature works from different art mediums relating to the Egyptian queen, from archaeological artefacts to films.

Additionally, founder and famed art historian, Marc Restellini, intends to showcase critically acclaimed works of art in the space that will celebrate his unique vision of transversality – a mix of art pieces that travel through different time periods. For instance, he once curated a striking exhibition that meshed Pollocks with African tribal artefacts to impeccable perfection. No doubt his brazen attitude to curation has earned him ‘enfant terrible’ status in the art world but yet he manages to bring in some of the most remarkabl pieces without fail – at times outbidding the renowned Louvre museum as well.

Knowing all that, we definitely getting a little riled up that now we get to witness Restellini’s unconventional views of art right here in town. So as we anticipate with bated breath at all the brilliant masterpieces that are set to make their way into Singapore, we bet the art scene is already rife with intriguing conversations!
