The Broken Circle Breakdown (Belgium)
Elise and Didier prove opposites attract when they fall in love at first sight. She has a tattoo shop, he plays the banjo in a bluegrass band. He talks, she listens. He's a romantic atheist, she's a religious realist. Their love goes through testing times when their daughter becomes critically ill.

Banklady (Germany)
Winner of the German Film Award 2014 amongst other film awards, Blanklady tells the story of Gisela Werler, a law abiding factory worker from Hamburg who gets embroiled in the shady world of theft and becomes Germany’s first female bank robber, known as the banklady. This psychodrama is sure to set hearts racing with its twists and turns.

Violence, drugs and gangsters are the premise of the movie, with protagonist Pierre Michel, a young magistrate realising he must change his methods if he is to truly confront the gangs of Marseille.

Bashful teacher Ernst Ostertag and the German cabaret artist Röbi Rapp fall in love in the Swiss underground organization called 'The Circle' and find they have to defend their love to society.

Returning from army stints in Afghanistan, Dave and Ally have to learn to re-adapt to life in Edinburgh. The movie chronicles their struggles as they learn how to deal with family, friends, jobs and relationships.

Winner of many film festival awards, this movie explores the nature of evil in unexpected places. Borgman, the anti-hero of the story is a vagrant who enters the lives of an upper class family and quickly unravels their carefully curated lifestyles.

A Royal Afair (Denmark)
This period drama was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Oscars. It's an 18th century story about the love affair and political aspirations of Queen Caroline Mathilda and Johann Struensee, physician to the deranged King Christian VII of Denmark.

The Disciple (Finland)
Set in the summer of 1939, we follow 13 year-old Karl who arrives on an isolated island in the Baltic Sea to work as an assistant to lighthouse master Hasselbond. He eventually develops a friendship with Hasselbond's son Gustaf, but this turns to hatred when Hasselbond starts favouring Karl over Gustaf.

Catch award-winning European films that transcend genres and showcase the continent’s cinematic creativity at the upcoming film festival in Singapore.

The 25th edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) is back in town, presenting an opportunity for movie buffs to catch award-winning foreign films that aren’t usually shown in main cinemas. The largest EUFF yet will see a lineup of films from 29 European countries with new participants Latvia, Malta and Serbia joining the show this year.

The longest-running foreign film festival in Singapore will take place from 13-24 May, showcasing a wide variety of film genres, ranging from drama to comedy, history, sport and thrillers, so whatever your cinematic cup of tea, you are sure to find something to your liking. Fluency in any particular European language is not required as all movies include English subtitles.

We know it’s hard to choose what to watch with over 30 films on show, so we’ve picked out the highlights of the event that you don’t want to miss. Sift through our gallery, read the synopsis and you’re good to go. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in there!

Along with the European films, 29 short films made by students from the Puttnam School of Film, LASALLE College of the Arts will also be screened during the EUFF.

The EUFF kicks off from 13-24 May. Tickets will be priced at SGD12 and will be available online on gv.com.sg or through walk-in at GV box offices nationwide from the end of April 2015. More infomation can be found at euff.sg
