Gilded Hair Ornaments
Punctuating the sleek tresses spotted on the Dolce & Gabbana and Versca shows were a series of gilded, glamourous hair ornaments. From bejeweled crowns and hair barrettes to pearl-encrusted bands, the menagerie of headpieces made for the perfect decadent accents.

The soft, diffused red lip
Spring 2018 at Milan Fashion Week brought on the renaissance of the classic red lip: except instead of the clean, precise application you might except, it was artfully done the Italian way, with a 'kissed-away' effect at the lip edges. While Marco di Vincenzo created an ultra vivid, matte iteration of the red lip with soft, diffused borders, Gucci and Philosophy layered gloss over their watercolour-like washes of red pigment to amp up the colour.

The Blowout 2.0
One thing's for sure: the blowout is back, only this time it's silkier, sleeker and more streamlined than before. From Ferragamo's silky (but not pin straight) tresses to Bottege Veneta's immaculate iteration with a clean middle part, MFW Spring 2018 proves that sleek strands is the perfect pairing to complement the dreamy spring fashion ensemble.

Cat-eye liner in electric hues
The feline flick has also been reimagined with a vibrant burst of colour. Standout renditions include Missoni's sharp, exaggerated flicks in bright, spring-worthy colours like mint green, aqua blue and lilac, as well as Marni's less defined blocks of cobalt, emerald green and turquoise dusted across the lids.

The Braid is Back – Only Different
Eugene Souleiman, the backstage hair pro behind Jill Sander, conjured a stunning slew of intricate plaits you didn't think was even conceivable. His tour de force of the show? A macrame-inspired, five-strand low braid that we can foresee will work its way to the streets soon.

Galactic-Worthy Glitter
True to the spirit of the 'fighting goddesses' that inspired the spring collection, strong silver glitter was fearlessly saturated across the lids and dusted across the brow-bones of the models in the Stella Jean show. The effect? A highly reflective, light-catching eye look that promises to be as visually arresting off the runway as it was on it.

Bronzed, Sculpted Pins
Yes, we're talking about a little leg action - and apparently the more of it, the better. Take cues from the iconic 90s supermodels - the likes of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Helena Christensen - who flaunted their legs-for-days while strutting the catwalk in gleaming (almost) waist-high front-slit gowns in Versace's honour.

One thing’s for sure: Milan Fashion Week can always be counted upon to deliver for fearless hair and makeup moments that you’ll want to steal beauty cues from.

The inspirations behind the high-impact beauty looks were manifold and wondrously unexpected: from Bolivia’s Cholitas wrestlers (from whom Stella Jean drew inspiration from for her galactic-worthy glittery eye looks) to Elton John (the inspiration behind Gucci’s vivid, electric lip colours and scintillating shadow).

And in true unapologetic Italian glamour, Dolce and Gabbana accented their silky, lustrous blowouts with bejeweled hair ornaments, while Gucci paid tribute to the late Gianni Versace on his 20th death anniversary not only by creating the iconic beauty looks of his era, but by reuniting the iconic 90s supermodels.
