Witness the magic of fireflies
If the thought of seeing beautiful specks of glowing fireflies dancing in the night isn’t romantic, we don’t know what is. There are many firefly tours you and your beau can sign up for in KL, and they usually include other fun sightseeing activities through country roads. MM Adventure Travel and Discovery has a full-day group tour to Kuala Selangor, where you will see the likes of silver leaf monkeys and migratory birds. The tour culminates at Kampung Kuantan, where an evening river boat ride through hush mangroves will take you straight to the glorious fireflies.

Visit the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park
If the two of you have a love for feathered creatures, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is a great way to get your fix in the heart of the tropical city. From stunning peacocks to noisy rainbow lorikeets to impressive hornbills, this park is home to many colourful species that will no doubt put smiles on your faces. Home to more than 3000 birds, the park even houses the “World’s Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary”. You’ll want to take plenty of memorable pictures here!

Batu Caves
Located just 13 kilometres north of KL, getting to the impressive limestone Batu Caves isn’t hard. Sure, the destination may be popular with visitors and tourists, being a religious site that houses several Hindu shrines, but that doesn’t mean you should pass up the chance to climb those arduous steps (all 272 of them), especially if you enjoy a challenge. Enduring couples will be rewarded with some of the most magnificent cave views in the country.

Do a bit of temple hopping
There are many impressive temples in KL, including Sin Sze Si Ya Temple, which is the oldest Taoist temple in the city. Built in 1864, it is located a conveniently short walk from Petaling Street. Thean Hou Temple is a six-tiered Buddhist temple with grand architecture that will impress any visitor. Set on a hill that offers picturesque views of the city, it is a popular wedding venue among the Chinese, and they even conduct martial arts classes and fortune-telling readings here.

National Zoo of Malaysia
With 110 acres of land to cover, you and your date will need to bring some good walking shoes and some bottles of water to keep you going - the zoo will take a full day to explore. Encounter big cats, head to the plains of Africa, enter the Butterfly Garden and Reptile House, see the tapirs and the camels, and yes, they even have a Giant Panda Conservation Centre. You know what that means!

Hike up Bukit Tabur
Located in Selangor, this prominent hill, known locally as ‘Bukit Hangus’, is actually a quartz ridge. If you and your partner are itching for a challenging 3 to 4 hour hike, which culminates in panoramic views of KL from the south, head up Bukit Tabur. There are a few trails you can pick from, though unless the two of you consider yourself to be fairly hardcore at hiking, don’t pick the more extreme trails, which could end up being too tough for the both of you! Leave them to the experts!

Stroll through Perdana Botanical Gardens
With various themed gardens within this sprawling park, nature lovers will feel truly at peace here. You will find lovely water features at the Hibiscus Garden (including a 4-metre tall waterfall), up to 800 species of orchids at the Orchid Garden, and elegant topiary at the Sunken Garden. If you’re after a relaxing date, the Perdana Botanical Gardens is the place to be.

The tropical heat in Malaysia can make exploring the outdoors a cumbersome experience for many couples. The sun isn’t exactly forgiving in Kuala Lumpur, that’s for sure.
