Tanah Lot
The Tanah Lot Temple is an absolute beauty that has extreme cultural and religious significance to Indonesia. Legend has it that the village chief opposed a high priest’s teachings of Hinduism. In response, the priest moved a large rock that he meditated into the rough sea, and the chief acknowledged the priest’s powers. The temple is an absolute marvel, but is often frequented by tourists, so arrive at around 5pm to explore the place before staying for the sunset.

Nusa Penida
Located on the southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida is an amazing island to visit, but the sunset is the final icing on top of the cake. Made up of three islands, Lembongan, Ceningan and Penida, reach this beautiful island with a short boat ride and enjoy your day there. The magnificent Devil’s Tears is a lookout atop a cliff, making this a wonderful place to have an uninterrupted view of the sunset, but Crystal Bay is amazing as well.

Rock Bar
AYANA Resort and Spa’s Rock Bar sits comfortably on top of rocks, noted for having one of the best views to see the sunset. Munch on their delicious menu of tapas and drinks, or go big with one of their main dishes, and then recline in your seat for a magnificent view of the sun. This place specialises in an amazing sunset experience, only opening up from 4pm onwards, so you know this will not disappoint.

Sunset Bars are all the rage in Bali, and La Laguna certainly hits the spot in all the right ways. This tapas bar and restaurant is right on the beach, ensuring you get a good spot to view the sunset. Hear the crash of the waves onto the shore and the invigorating beats of the music, bite into their juicy steaks, and truly enjoy the sunset.

Uluwatu Temple
While not as heavily populated like Tanah Lot, Uluwatu Temple is comparable in every way. 70 meters above sea level, this temple is inhabited by monkeys, whom you can watch the sunsets with, but you should probably be cautious because they have a tendency to steal things. Carry a stick like the guides, and they will steer clear, so you can enjoy the sunset while watching a kecak dance. At the end of it, you can even take a picture with the dancers and the sun.

Double Six Rooftop
On top of Double Six Luxury Hotel lies Double Six Rooftop, providing an extensive view of the sunset. 15 meters above the sea level, gaze down at the shore before looking forward into the sky while relaxing in private pods that gives you the privacy you desire. If that’s not attractive enough, the drinks available all have a local twist, and the food selection here ensures you will want to come back again and again.

Gili Islands
There are a few beaches with swings, but Gili Islands’ might blow them all out of the water (and quite literally so). If you are into a comprehensive viewing time, you can recline on one of the beanbags and bars scattered around the beach. Otherwise, swing with reckless abandon on the swing and prepare yourself for the moment where the sun begins to set.

Canggu Beach
Is it really any surprise that another beach has made this list? Probably not. After all, seeing the line where the sky meets the sea and watching that blur into a cacophony of colour is an alluring sight. Canggu Beach is known for its waves, but chill right before sunset with cold beer and bar snacks and really fall in love with the beauty of nature all over again.

Yeh Leh Beach
Listed as one of the most Instagrammable beaches in Indonesia, it is understandable that this is also an exquisite location to catch the sunset. The origins of the iconic borders marking the shoreline is unknown, but the way they aid the wave is a magical sight. At times, mist may arise, but the most beautiful moment is during sunset where the boulders reflect most amazingly.

Ku De Ta
Of course, no list of best places to catch a sunset in Bali is complete without the inclusion of Ku De Ta. Known as the original sunset destination of the island, Ku De Ta is a beach lounge, mixed in with a bar and a restaurant. We don’t need to say much because its reputation precedes itself, but this means your dining experience is elevated, which merely adds to your viewing experience as well.

One of the most underrated pleasures in Bali are its sunsets, and you definitely should not miss them each day you’re there.

So, you have travelled around the magnificent island of Bali and have absolutely fallen in love with the place. With the endless beaches, the friendly hospitality, and food that will most definitely guarantee satisfaction, what is not to like? It is understandable that, at the end of the day, you just want to put your (very sore) feet up and rest in your accommodation for the rest of the day, in preparation of your next. We feel you, we’ve been there before but— stop. Don’t go back just yet.

See, sunrises and sunsets in Bali are magical things. And, okay, yes we might be exaggerating, but it is something you have to catch at least once if you’re there. The sky gets tinted an incredible shade that seems almost Photoshopped, and the crashing of the waves or the silhouette of landmarks forms the most magnificent viewing backdrop. Sure, waking up early to catch sunrises can be a bit hard, but watching the sunset is most definitely feasible. At around 6.15pm (the actual time would differ depending on the month), drop what you are doing and just watch the sky. We promise, it is an incredible experience.
