1. Soka Beach
Escape from the beaches of South Bali, many of which endure large numbers of visitors every day, and head to Soka Beach in the west. This black sand beach promises to be a haven for weary travelers, boasting a picture perfect view of the Indian Ocean, large rock formations and a secret bat cave.
This hidden gem is bordered by thick coconut groves, rice fields and a chain of green hills stretching from the west to the Batakaru Mountain range in the north. On a clear day you can even spot the sacred peaks of Mount Agung in the distance.
Soka Beach is also a spiritual place for the Balinese, surrounded by myths, legends and seaside temples. It is believed that the coral rock formations jutting out into the sea are the kitchen and cooking pot of a mighty man by the name of Kebo Iwa. Hmm, we wonder what’s cooking...

Located in the Tabanan regency on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road, you can find Soka Beach by heading west from Tabanan for about 25km (look for the sign on the highway that points towards “Pantai Soka”)

2. Bias Tugal Beach
If what you’re looking for is your own private beach secluded in nature, Bias Tugal Beach may be the one for you. Located near the port of Padangbai in the east of Bali, Bias Tugal is not frequented by visitors very often due to the 500 meter rocky path you must traverse by foot in order to reach it. The sight of pure white sand and clear water at the bottom of the hill, however, makes this mini trek well worth the effort.
Here you can enjoy sunbathing, snorkeling and diving, where dazzling coral reefs are home to vibrant sea life. There are a few small ramshackle huts on the beach selling cold drinks and snacks, but we recommend bringing along a picnic of food supplies in order to take advantage of the shady palms and the turquoise bay all day long.

Not accessible by motor vehicles, look out for a small path just a few hundred meters south of the entrance port to Padang Bai. There will be a handwritten sign that says “White Sand Beach”, where you will park your car or bike and begin the short climb up and over the hill.

3. Nyang Nyang Beach
Another favorite white sand hideaway of ours is Nyang Nyang Beach, located on the Bukit Peninsula in southern Bali. Think uncharted territory and Robinson Crusoe-style exploration. Like many of the other hidden beaches on this island, Nyang Nyang is an untouched beach at the bottom of a steep green hill, not easily accessible by your average passerby.
For those willing to make the rather strenuous journey down (and up!), there is a long flight of stairs carved into the hill for climbing, 564 to be exact. Be warned that there is nothing on this beach except for a small shop at the top of the stairs, so come prepared and cherish the rare occurrence of your own tropical beach. May this beach stay a hidden treasure for quite a while…

Look for small sign on Jalan Uluwatu that reads “Nyang Nyang Surfing Beach”. You will have to park your car or bike on a dirt road before making the rest of the trek by foot. Remember to take any valuables with you!
