The secret terraces of Paris

Buried in wonderful gardens or nestled in the heart of monuments and mythical places, here are our top confidential addresses to relax in the city…

1-Le-Roland-Garros_paris-terrace
Roland – Garros

Fans of the clay court (and tennis in general) can dine everyday (except Sunday evening) under the shade of the garden, at this legendary stage’s edge. If you spend your holiday in the capital, do not miss the brunch (38 € for adults and 19 € for children) served every Sunday and continue for a backstage tour of the stadium (needs reservation) or even visit The Museum of the French Tennis Federation.

2 bis avenue Gordon-Bennett, 75016 Paris.

2-Le-Poulpry-paris-terrace
Le Poulpry

Enter La Maison des Polytechniciens on your tiptoes and behold the grandeur of this exclusive place! Head directly to the restaurant Le Poulpry, which for the first time opens its terrace to gourmet-loving visitors. There is a special menu for the occasion, mainly salads and tartars (36 €). Keep a place for dessert; the strawberry tarte sablée and Tagada ice cream (8.50 €) are too good to miss…

12, rue de Poitiers, 75007 Paris.

3-Cafe-Carlu-terrace-paris
The Carlu coffee

Housed in a wing of the Palais de Chaillot, Trocadero Square – la Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine is worth visiting for its treasures, but also for the panoramic terrace of  its restaurant, Café Carlu. Locals recommend it for its stunning design and amazing cuisine. If the incredible view of the Eiffel Tower is already a treat, the menu is as impressive: generous salads at the Salad Bar (€ 9.50), daily specials, desserts, all very well-priced.

1, Place du Trocadero and November 11 75016 Paris.

4-JP-Salle_Jardin-du-Petit-Palais-paris-terrace
Le Jardin du Petit Palais

Unusual and intimate, this is one of the most secretive terraces of the capital. Buried in the inner garden of the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts in Paris), surrounded by colonnades of flowers and refreshed by pools decorated with mosaics and stunning exotic plants is a true paradise!

The cafe opens with continuous service from 10 am to 5:15 p.m. and up to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays. There is a set meal (dish of the day and dessert) for € 15.90, which is to be savoured by taking your time and forgetting the hustle and bustle of the close-by Champs-Elysées.

Avenue Winston Churchill, 75008 Paris.

5-La-Faisanderie-Saint-Cloud-terrace-paris
La Faisanderie

Admittedly, this restaurant in the park of Saint-Cloud is not in the heart of the city. But it takes just 15 minutes by car to find this timeless haven in the countryside. The park, ranked among the most beautiful gardens in Europe, is alone worth the trip.

The restaurant, built under a glass roof  which is left completely open during fine weather days also offers shaded tables under umbrellas. Accompanied by the music of the birds, the set menu (appetizer, entrée and accompanying drink, dessert, drink) for 22.50 € fills our hearts without emptying our pockets!

Open to everyone; lunch is served from Monday to Friday, 12am to 14:30 and for dinner from Wednesday to Friday, from 19h30 to 22h – until July 15.

French National Stadium Parc de Saint-Cloud, Driveway Chamillard, 92430 Marnes la Coquette.

6-Restaurant-Les-Arts-paris-terrace
Les Arts

In the heart of Paris, this is a charming nineteenth-century mansion that houses the Maison des Arts et Métiers. No need to be an engineer to enjoy its elegant park with views of the Eiffel Tower.

The terrace restaurant ‘Les Arts’ welcomes thirty people in the midst of roses and perfectly manicured bushes. The table is excellent if you enjoy traditional food and a good magazine. Costs € 41.60 for the day’s set menu, and 60 € à la carte.

9 bis, avenue d’Iena, 75116 Paris.
