We try out the new Air France first class suite – on the Singapore Flyer – and share the highlights of this unique experience.

When we got picked up from the office in an Air France limousine, we had no idea where we were going. All we knew is that we were going to be among the first to experience the ‘La Premiere’ first class suite which Air France is launching for the Paris-Singapore route.

Would it be in a plane simulator? An actual plane? Or just somewhere hidden around the city? But we were certainly – and pleasantly – surprised when we were dropped off at the Singapore Flyer to experience the ‘La Premiere’ experience aboard the iconic observation wheel, i.e. up in the air!

Greeted by impeccably dressed flight attendants, our journey began as the special capsule fitted with the newly-launched seat landed and it was our turn to board.

Comfy and wide, the seat which transforms into a full flat bed was just what we expected from Air France whose latest campaign ‘Air France, France is in the Air’ promises to provide ‘French luxury in international air travel’. The suite layout also takes into consideration the need for storing our items with a clever design which includes hidden drawer under the foot rest, a spacious compartment next to the window and an individual cloakroom to store coats and jackets. Not to mention two TV screens so you can enjoy the entertainment on board whichever way you please.

When it comes to the food menu – expect the crème de la crème as La Premiere travellers will be treated to a custom-made menu by a host of Michelin-starred French chefs like Joel Rouchon, Regis Marcon and Guy Martin among others.

For our own 30 minute suite experience, we got treated to delicious canapés (Crème Fromage Profiteroles, Candies orange Vol au Vent and Fruit Coulis) and a suitably-light and mouth-watering entrée (Seared Scallop, Asparagus Puree, Sautéed Morels, Tomato Concasse). Both dishes were accompanied with French Champagne (Billecart Salmon Brut Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart 1999) which was suitably crisp and well-balanced.

Additional details which La Premiere boasts include adjustable curtains which can turn your seat into a proper ‘suite’ so you can enjoy privacy when you want, fluffy pillows and a Sofitel® My Bed duvet which ensure you get a good night’s sleep and arrive fully recharged – and perhaps ready for a gruelling day of shopping in Paris.

With our Marie France headquarters located in Paris and an office here in Singapore – we could only hope that our upcoming business trips will be on board this truly relaxing suite which would certainly make the journey count – just as much as the destination itself.
