Just don’t drop the (bar of) soap.

Over the years, bar soaps have come to be perceived as the dowdy, old-fashioned sibling to body wash. However, did you know that bar soaps have their own benefits?

Bar soaps are natural exfoliators

By simply rubbing bar soap over your body when you’re in the shower, you release dirt and dead skin cells as you go, leaving your skin naturally exfoliated. One common misconception that puts many people off bar soap is that they are full of bacteria. However, research has found that there are no detectable levels of bacteria transferred to the skin’s surface after use. Our skin also contains many naturally occurring microbes that help to destroy germs. Just make sure that you leave your soap in a well-ventilated area, or in its own dish.

Bar soaps are moisturising

Naysayers also claim that bar soap has a higher pH level than body wash, which can be drying to the skin. For those concerned about sensitive skin, a solution is to look out for bar soaps with natural and organic ingredients that can moisturise the skin. For example, shea butter, honey, and almond milk are all known for their nourishing properties.

Bar soaps are eco-friendly

Compared to plastic bottles, bar soap is usually packaged in paper or cardboard. Besides being biodegradable, they also help to keep soap dirt and dust-free and preserve the fragrances in the soap, if any.
