Sleep your way to bouncier skin with The Body Shop’s new Sleeping Bouncy Mask! We try the product, dish out on a few tips on how to use it best and of course deliver our verdict.

Is your skin feeling a little worse for wear after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season? Does it need a little pick-me-up? We’ve got just the thing to satisfy all of your skincare needs.

With the distractions of everyday life, we often find it hard to practice a full skincare regime at the best of times. Which is why The Body Shop’s new addition to their best-selling Drops of Youth range has quickly become our best friend. The Bouncy Sleeping Mask is light, refreshing, and is conveniently used at night while we dream of luscious Prada bags and Givenchy lipsticks.

Featuring a bouncy, memory shape texture – this ultra innovative mask is quickly absorbed for a unique ‘second skin’ feeling and doesn’t need to be washed off. The secret behind the youth-enhancing mask is a gentle blend of Edelweiss plant stem cells. This hardy flower allows your cells to rejuvenate and boosts your skin’s natural moisture, leaving you with bouncy, supple skin when you wake up. Use this mask as the last step of your nightly skincare routine, as it will lock in other products.

We at Marie France Asia were given the chance to get up close and personal with The Body Shop’s global skincare expert, Dr Terry Loong – who kindly gave us a lesson or two on the proper application of this overnight mask, as well as other skincare secrets. And we’ve got all the info here just for you!

The sleeping process:

According to Dr. Terry, three important things happen while we sleep:

Fix: The repair process occurs. Old skin cells shed and new cells are created at the surface of the skin.
Fight: Sleeping boosts a hormone called melatonin – a powerful antioxidant which helps fight age spots and wrinkles.
Firm: Growth hormones occur to boost skin’s collagen, elasticity and firmness.

Because of these three steps, it is extremely important to get a good 6-8 hours of sleep per night. Use the bouncy sleeping mask in conjunction with sleep to wake up with younger, fresher and more hydrated skin.

The bouncy massage technique:

To get the most out of your overnight mask, try using Dr. Terry’s personalised Sleeping Bouncy Mask massage technique. Complete the routine twice when applying the product. This simple 5-step massage stimulates the lymphatic system, encouraging circulation and better absorption of the product. Watch the video to find out how:

The best sleeping position for your skin:

As we age, our skin loses elasticity, taking longer to bounce back into shape. Which means that sleep masks take twice, or three times as long to disappear in the morning. To preserve your skin, try sleeping on your back so there is no pressure on your face. However, if you have to sleep on your side, invest in a good silk pillowcase to avoid any crease marks. Remember to wash your pillowcases weekly to rid it of any unwanted bacteria.

Our verdict:

Basically, where has this been all my life! Super fun and easy to use, this overnight mask works wonders on my extremely sensitive, dry and dehydrated skin. Once applied, this product creates the feeling of extremely smooth, supple skin that is well-moisturised. It quickly sinks in, so you won’t have to wait for ages for the product to dry.

In the morning, my skin feel fresh, rejuvenated and extra-bouncy. Plus, skin imperfections such as blemishes and fine lines seem to be visibly reduced. Perfect for all skin types, use this mask when you’re on a long-haul flight, or experiencing harsh weathers like the hot sun or freezing cold. A little goes a long way too.
