Invest more on lesser tools to get maximum usage out of the best makeup brushes. Here are the select few you need for a flawless face everyday.

With all the makeup tools readily available to us at just the click of a cursor or a short trip to Sephora, choosing the perfect makeup brush can feel overwhelming. Just because it's up for sale doesn't mean you need to have it. Nothing's worse than spending your hard-earned money on tools you realise you never needed! Makeup brushes are an investment, and shelling out on a good quality one will last you ages and serve you (and your face) well.

So before you make a trip to the nearest beauty supply store, read on for the low down on the most vital makeup brushes to have in your kit.

FOUNDATION BRUSH

Essential for a flawless base, your ideal foundation brush will take you through every occasion and help with speedy foundation applications. Applying the product with a brush in circular motions all over your face will reach a large surface area in a short amount of time, cutting your makeup routine time to a minimum - always a plus for those hectic mornings!

Which brush is suitable for your kit is entirely up to you, depending on your product consistency and personal preference. Dense buffing brushes with synthetic bristles, which come in flat-top and rounded variations, are best for full-coverage applications of cream and liquid foundations, as they do not absorb liquids the way natural brushes do. Natural-bristle brushes (usually made of goat or squirrel hair) are great for buffing powder foundation into the skin. Duo-fiber stippling brushes are popular for their light to medium-coverage airbrushed-finish qualities.

SMALL ANGLED BRUSH

These brushes are best for eyebrows and eyeliner, and are either slightly wide and fluffy (for brows) or dense and streamlined for delicate eye makeup. They work wonders for enhancing the outer corners of your eyebrows, while also keeping your eyeliner #onfleek.

ANGLED CHEEK BRUSH

Sometimes known as a contouring brush, the angled cheek brush is a makeup underdog that aids in fool-proof contouring, highlighting, bronzer and blush application. Most would go for a wide flat-top brush for razor-sharp contour lines, but an angled cheek brush is really where it's at - no matter if you're into super-chiseled cheekbones or a soft, warmed-up look. If you're pressed for time and can't find your powder brush, rest assured this does the job too. A great 4-in-1.

EYE BLENDING BRUSH

A blending brush is one you should have for beautiful, well-blended eye makeup looks. You don't have to be a pro, because just a few practice sessions with this brush will leave you in awe at the magic it does for blending your eyeshadow.
