Triple-duty Makeup: 3 Ways to use black eyeshadow

Bust out that forgotten eyeshadow shade from your palettes, it’s time to get some use out of it.

Multi-tasking makeup is a recurring favourite here at Marie France Asia, and we’ve found yet another product to add into the mix. Black eyeshadow is a product we probably all have but can’t get around to using it much, for fear of a bruised-looking failed smokey eye. Fret not, we’re here to show you the different ways you can utilise your (possibly) newest favourite product.

EYELINER

If you’re not a fan of the crisp lines you get from gel or liquid eyeliners but still want the colour payoff, use black eyeshadow. With a damp angled brush, it can be applied as an eyeliner for a smokey eye look. Give yourself hazy winged tips for a flirty effect, or apply close to the lash line for an is-it-even-there smokey tight-lined look. It’s also forgiving on mistakes since it’s a powder, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up uneven strokes afterwards like you normally would.

CREASE COLOUR

Pull off a dramatic eye look for a night out partying or a grand event by using black eyeshadow as your crease colour. This will give you the illusion of deep eye sockets, resulting in more lifted looking lids which give off the effect of bigger eyes. Diffuse the colour with a large eye blending brush for a softer look.

EYEBROWS

Although we don’t recommend using black eyeshadow for your entire brow (unless you’re into the Shin-chan look), it’s a great enhancement to a brow that’s too brown and unnatural-looking. Asian hair is usually black, so a brown eyebrow colour – especially ones with a reddish undertone – may sometimes look too mismatched. Mimic the hairs of your brows by filling in sparse areas with light strokes of a small amount of the black eyeshadow. Concentrate on the outer corners of your brows so you don’t leave it looking too severe.

Time to abuse the black shade of your favourite eyeshadow palette. You’ll be reaching for it every now and then for sure!
