Beauty and the beach: the 10 products you need to have fun in the sun

updated the 17 August 2015 à 11:26

Because we all want to look immaculate even on the beach, here is our selection of products which are convenient to slip into your bag, along with some tips.

Protect and hydrate:

The # 1 rule during the holidays is to protect your skin from the sun. We all know and yet we sometimes give in to our desire to have a quick golden tan and risk our health as a result. It is important to know that a high degree of protection does not prevent you from tanning, so do not overlook the sunscreen: Apply a thick layer every two hours while you are exposed to the sun. For hair, the situation is similar. The sun, sea water and chlorine are harmful to our hair. Apply a protective treatment before sun exposure and swimming to prevent drying and loss of radiance (Invisible Hair Protection, Pool & Sea Protector).

Rule # 2  is to stay well hydrated. On the face, apply a moisturizer, preferably with a high index value ( UV Essential Daily UV Protection SPF 20, 30 or 50 +, Chanel) . For body and hair, beauty oil can be a perfect 2 in 1. It hydrates the body, enhances the tan and nourishes the hair (Huile Prodigieuse, NUXE).

Huile Prodigieuse, NUXE, approx. USD53.4

Alcohol-free perfume:

Spritzing some perfume in the morning is a hard habit to break, yet perfume and the beach are not the best of friends. In fact, alcohol (which is found in perfumes) and the sun do not really go well together as they can cause the appearance of spots or worse, cause irritation. While waiting for the sunset, we opt for an alcohol-free perfume instead (Eau des Jardins, Clarins, USD46.8 for 100ml).

Beach-friendly makeup:

Yes, it is quite possible! While some of us prefer to take a break from makeup during the beach holidays, others can not do without. For the eyes, there’s nothing like waterproof mascara, so as not to look like a panda out of the water (Aqua Smoky Lash Mascara, Make Up For Ever). For the nails, try a bright and flashy colour (Jinx, Bond Girls collection, OPI); beach is all about the fun after all! Remember to apply a base coat, the varnish and finish off with a top coat to keep it intact for longer.

As for the lips, opt for a natural look with a light colored balm (Protective Balm for Lips, Elizabeth Arden), or match your sparkling nail color with a long lasting bright lipstick (Dangerous, Retro Matte Colour, MAC). Finally, the skin; forget the foundation and opt instead for a bronzing powder to warm the skin and give it a sublime glow.
