Move aside BB and CC cream, there’s a new product in town. Here are a few ‘blur’ creams to complete your journey to a flawless complexion.

What are blur beauty products and why are they on the shelves? Up until now, we thought Blur was just a band. Or if you’re Singaporean, a feeling you get when you feel particularly groggy that day.

As it turns out these products help obscure the imperfections on your skin with the help of scientific techniques – a blur cream, if you must.

We speak with Sylvie Guichard, director of scientific communication of Métiers Cosmétiques to learn more about this new category of skincare.

What is a blur?

It ‘blurs’ out imperfections such as wrinkles or enlarged pores. In the 90s, there were ‘soft-focus’ products that obtained similar results. Today, this new branch of the ‘Blur’ family blurs by optical effect, a little bit like layering light on your face. Instead of the light being reflected entirely from your face, it is ‘diffused’ thanks to the particles in the product like silica and polymers.

How do we use blurring products?

This is a finishing product that is tapped onto your imperfections after your day cream but before your makeup. The product can be used throughout the day to touch up. The texture is more dense than cream and can fill in crows feet, nasolabial folds and camouflage enlarged pores.

What can we expect from future blurring products?

We are working on a product that will simplify your beauty routine and meet the expectations of women wanting to see immediate effects on their skin. Our teams are in the midst of integrating the blurring effect in other care products for the second time. I can’t reveal much more than that.
