Thought sun protection was only for your skin? Think again.

When we think of sun protection, our initial thoughts go straight to SPF for our skin (and even lips). But did you know that your hair needs a share of that protection too? Prolonged exposure to the sun can age your hair by fading its colour (both synthetic and natural), causing it to lose its lustre and arising in future thinning issues. Thought you could get away with just a rinse and some conditioner, did you? Think again.

While you’re enjoying some R&R by the pool or beach, the sun could be speeding up the process of ageing your locks. A hat or scarf could filter some of the UV rays you’re exposed to, but extra care is needed once you take a dip in the pool or hit the waves. If you’ve always been prone to dry, brittle tresses after your outdoor summer sessions, you now know why.

Start to provide sun damage prevention to your hair by investing in leave-in conditioners, styling products or hair masks. Look for products that have broad-spectrum UV filters in them, to better protect your hair from all the harmful sun rays. Regular care for your locks pre and post-sun exposure can help to retain its youthful bounce and shine, letting you have that healthy mane for longer.
