Of course, you can't mention celebrity beauty brands and not include Kylie Cosmetics. The makeup line by the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has stirred the makeup world, starting with her signature lip kits, which sold out within minutes of its official launch. Beyond the liquid lipsticks, Kylie Cosmetics also carries eyeshadows, blushes and highlighters called 'Kylighters'.

If there's anything supermodel turned business mogul Tyra Banks knows, it's about putting your best face forward. It is therefore unsurprising that her makeup line, Tyra Beauty, ranks as one of our favourite celebrity beauty brands. We recommend the '2-Minute Tyover' sculpting kit which consists of two creamy contour and highlight sticks, as well as a makeup sponge, which lets you achieve a beautiful sculpted face in mere minutes. What's more, Tyra Beauty also carries a great shade range for deeper skin tones.

KVD Beauty by Kat Von D
Kat Von D has quickly grown to become a cult beauty brand, with her wildly popular liquid lipsticks, beautifully pigmented eyeshadow palettes and contour kits and edgy packaging. Started in 2008 by tattoo artist Kat Von D, the line is also vegan and cruelty-free. The felt-tip Tattoo Liner in Trooper consistently ranks as the best eyeliner by beauty editors for its inky black pigment and staying power.

Josie Maran Cosmetics by Josie Maran
Josie Maran created her eponymous beauty line, Josie Maran Cosmetics, in 2007. She was inspired to create her own beauty line featuring Pure Argan Oil as her signature ingredient when she was introduced to the oil by a woman she met in the South of France who looked 40, even though she was 70. The brand takes pride in using safe, healthy ingredients in its products and its sustainable, conscience practice. It uses Fair Trade Argan Oil, grown and harvested responsibly by co-ops of Moroccan women who earn a living wage.

We adore Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore, which carries everything from highlighters to lip glosses and makeup brushes. What we especially love about the brand is that it manages to be really affordable yet stellar in quality. In fact, their products are formulated in the same labs as high-end beauty brands). We recommend the Glisten Up Highlighter Chubby Stick that leaves a subtle, golden glow on your skin that lasts all day.

We’d still totally buy them even if they didn’t have the name attached.

For a long time, the idea of a ‘celebrity makeup line’ did little to inspire confidence. After all, celebrity beauty brands often have a poor rep forbeing half-baked attempts that seem to rely more on their famous names to drive sales, rather than actual quality. (We’re looking at you, Khroma Beauty.)

However, with the world’s most influential beauty gurus raving about Kim Kardashian‘s new KKW Beauty contour kit launches of late, we think the time could not be more ripe to dig through our beauty archives for our favourite Hollywood celebrity brands that we actually like.

For one, we are obsessed with Jessica Alba’s Honest Beauty line. The newly-launched beauty range seeks to create safely-formulated beauty products that still delivers effective, beautiful results on the skin. And of course, you cannot mention celebrity makeup line without including Kylie Jenner‘s eponymous makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics. The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has stirred the beauty world with her signature lip kits, which rank among some of our favourite liquid lipsticks to date.

In fact, some of these brands – like Josie Maran Cosmetics and Kat Von D (both also cruelty-free) – have evolved to become major global beauty brands that you almost forget they started out as a celebrity line.
