The simple action of dabbing and patting has revolutionised the way we apply our makeup.

Compact cushions – they have taken over the beauty world by storm. What started out as a beauty trend in Asia, particularly Korea and Japan, has travelled continents and is now part of other beauty worlds. In fact, many commercial and leading beauty brands are jumping on the cushion bandwagon and launching foundations, blushes and even highlighters in this tiny compact form.

If you are looking to create a fuss-free makeup routine, using cushion compacts will not only save you time but help you to enhance your natural skin tone as well. These products are formulated with a hybrid formula. Think of them as your skincare rolled into a tiny compact coupled with coverage. Cushion compacts include SPF, cooling ingredients and are lightweight. They can be layered well without giving off a caked-on appearance. These foundations-in-cushion sponges come in a variety of finishes, from dewy to semi-matte. Your options also extend to blushes and highlighters.

When using these products, we recommend using the cushion foundation first and setting it with a light layer of setting powder to withstand the humid weather. Once your base has set, use a cushion blusher to add a flush of colour to your cheeks. Blend by patting the puff against your skin. Using a combination of dabbing and tapping motions will help to distribute the product evenly. Finish off with a touch of highlighter and you’ll notice your skin canvas looking like an enhanced version of your natural self. What you are doing is helping to even your skin tone out and add colour and light to specific points to bring out your features even more.

Head over to the gallery above for a round-up of some of our favourite compact finishes to incorporate into your daily makeup routine.
