One shade does not fit all when it comes to blushes. Here’s how you match the right blush shade to your skin tone without looking like the Joker’s sister.

Blushes when used right can help to draw attention to your features and add warmth to your face. Picking the right blush is nothing short of a challenge. With so many different shades and finishes out there, finding the right colour requires some trial and error. Start off by first knowing what exactly is your skin tone. Do you have fair, medium, dark skin or an in between? After you’ve decided which category you fall under, read on for our guide on picking the best blusher for your skin tone.

FAIR

We are sure even Snow White had difficulties picking the right blusher colour for her porcelain skin. The key to picking a shade for your fair skin tone is to stick to the following rule – lighter is better.

A lighter shade like a pale pink would look more natural and give your complexion that subtle flush. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, layer that shade and drag it a little more towards your hair line for an added effect. This really helps to bring out your cheekbones. If you are looking for an everyday fuss-free shade, opt for a peach blush with a slight shimmer in it. This makes it easier to blend out while still adding a slight pop of colour.

MEDIUM

If you are rocking a medium skin tone, opt for a blush with rosey pink or deep peach undertones. These warm toned shades help to not only warm up your complexion but define your features subtly as well. Avoid going for lighter shades as they can make you appear washed out. Also, anything too dark may end up looking comical. If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for a orange blush with the slightest of gold shimmer in it. It is a fresh way to draw attention to a bold makeup look. When it comes to medium skin tones, it is important to blend the blush out as excess product would be easily visible.

DARK

Those with darker skin tones should not be intimidated by colour. In fact, they have a variety of choices to choose from. For starters, it is important to avoid choosing a shade that is too light as it will make your skin appear paler and washed out – certainly a look we are not going for.

Enhance your features by choosing shades such as brick red, which would only serve to emphasize your beautiful skin tones. Choosing cooler tones might make your complexion appear ashy. Shades such as brick red and raisin can be used as blush shades or even contour shades. For that extra pop, add a rosey or deep orange shade to your cheeks.
