With our tips in hand, you’ll see that a smokey eye look on monolids is much easier than you think.

We know how frustrating it gets when you’re all ready to stun your friends with your fabulous, smokey eye makeup on a big night out, but realise what you’ve just slathered onto your lids makes it seem like you’ve just received a black eye instead of the seductive look you were going for.

If you’ve followed online tutorials by Caucasian YouTubers with deep-set eyes, chances are, your attempt at eye makeup hasn’t been turning out ideal. So, how exactly do you go about obtaining the sexy look that a smokey eye offers? Here are some surefire tips you can follow to look amazing tonight.

Don’t fake a crease

We acknowledge the many tutorials surfacing online giving tips to those with Asian eyes on how to apply eyeshadow to imitate a crease in your lid. This is certainly possible, but not something we would recommend as it can appear overdone and artificial.

Adopt a simple gradient method

For those who have tried blending in dark eyeshadow from the outer corners of your eye but felt it didn’t look as good as you imagined it to be, creating a simple gradient is an easy application technique you might want to use instead. This method is, as you would have it, best suited for people with monolids. Layer a simple three-colour gradient on your lid starting with the lightest colour. The darkest eyeshadow colour should appear closest to your lash line. Remember that blending is key.

Apply eyeshadow in a whale shape

A simple dramatic look can be achieved by applying black eyeshadow in a whale shape on your lid, then blending it out after. This is a good alternative if you find yourself spending too much time trying to form a V-shaped contour (the “Outer V”) on the outer corners of your eyes.

Line the bottom of your eye

Line the bottom waterline of your eye with eyeliner only halfway in to open up the eye. This does not necessarily create a smokey eye effect, but is a great tip for those with small Asian eyes. It certainly makes you look more sexy and mysterious as well.

Add some shimmer

Highlighting the inner corners of your eye and your browbone with a light, shimmery eyeshadow are crucial last steps to take in order to create definition to your gorgeous smokey eye.

Along with a good, thick layer of mascara or some false lashes, get ready to seriously impress fellow Asian-eyed ladies tonight!
